Smile Jamaica Ark-Ives Mar. 6, 2021 – Bunny Wailer Joins Jah’s Heavenly Choir

Bunny Wailer, b. Apr. 10, 1947 joins Jah’s Heavenly Choir

Greetings,

Crap. I ‘n’ I was still processing the loss of Reggae stalwart U Roy. I was actually at work editing a sound file when all of a sudden my phone lit up. Twitter, Rolling Stone, friends: Bunny Wailer passes of complications from a stoke he had last summer. At 73, that is far too young. But now he adds the high harmony to Bob’s tenor and Peter’s baritone.

As it was and ever shall be. Selah!

Bob was the rock star. Peter the militant. And Bunny was rightfully the mystic man of the trio. He didn’t want to fit into the rock star mold that Island owner Chris Blackwell wanted for the group. So he pulled out and re-trenched as a Rasta philosopher and dancehall pioneer. His high harmonies on Hallelujah Time*, which I lead off with today, speak to his gospel prowess.

*Great name for a Reggae radio show/podcast!

<Hallelujah Time; 32 sec.>

Bunny, Bob, Peter – locks grow in their heart!

As befit their ghetto roots that led to so much great music, they were all inter-related.  Bunny’s father lived with Bob’s mother and had a dawta. Bob’s half sister. Peter had Andrew Tosh with Bunny’s sister. So even when the 3 went their separate ways, they were still and always a family.

<Why I call it Wailers Family Tree; 30 sec.>

Bunny’s father; Bob’s mother; sister Pearl

For I ‘n’ I, Bunny Wailer always means two things. The record I purchased before I was even into Reggae: Blackheart Man. Saw it front and center at the foundation Salt Lake City record shop Cosmic Aeroplane. Great Neville Garrick cover art. Gatefold sleeve, rare for a Reggae record. Of Bunny, spliff in his mouth, a lion protruding from his third eye while an extra terrestrial looking Haile Selassie sits upon his shoulder. That album helped light the fuse.

The Blackheart Man. Indeed!

<Blackheart Man, earliest addition to the Smile Jamaica Ark-Ive; 58 sec.>

The other sublime Bunny Wailer is his stepping out on lead with the 1971 recording of Dreamland. The lyrics are all about going to heaven. (The last song on this podcast edition.) Lee “Scratch” Perry brought out that terrific mysticism that is so authentic and powerful. When its my turn, I’ve asked it to be played at any gathering my would family have.

Thank you Neville Livingston for making us enriched with the power of your music and the beauty of your voice.

bless, Bobbylon

We better be here by 2120 – Mars

<Stephen Hawking: To save mankind we have 100 years to Mars; 1 min. 5 sec.>

Greetings,

We are screwed. No Jah Love for I ‘n’ I optimism on this blog post. We need to face facts.

Stephen Hawking: Colonize Mars or humankind perishes

As Smile Jamaica warns during my UFOria sets: We need to quit skylarking and get to the skies.

Mother Earth is finished. It is dead. Not dying. Dead. We killed it. It is a zombie.

Every President has an Oil of the Above energy policy. Industry and government collusion prevented renewables from replacing carbon.

I’m not that much of a tree hugger (more of a leaf burner), but I know it’s over. In 50 years every coastal city will be under water.

Every year living in Utah the air quality gets worse. Even I, with my spongy lung capacity, gets hit by bronchitis frequently.

Soon they will be taxing clean air while the rest of us working stiffs choke. I like my air just my peanut butter: smooth and nah chunky!

My vista in Salt Lake City every January and February. Chunky stylee

I don’t have kids. But if I did I would weep for my nieces and nephews’ great grand kids.

This shouldn’t have happened…

After great promise with the Moon Landing in 1969, we stopped our momentum and put all of our R & D in heinous weapons of mass destruction.

Imagine the trillions on nukes and bombs and jet fighters devoted to Space Travel.

Too bad. So sad. We’re fucked. All we got from Neil Armstrong walking on the moon? Velcro, teflon and Tang.

Smile Jamaica Digital Dubplate: Snowbound Excursion – Jah-nuary 27, 2017!

dscn1134

Greetings,

I knew it was gonna be trouble. Last Saturday we got 6 inches in the Salt Lake Valley. My garage is in the alley way. Dangerous for getting high centered and sliding into power poles.

So I waited for a lull in the storm and moved my car to the front street.  My street was unploughed and there was snow accumulated over the curb.

Loaded up my stacks of wax and suitcase of disks. And headed for KRCL.….

Goosed my All Wheel Drive Subaru to plow through virgin snow. Best intentions….. 4 wheels on top of snowpack just skidded me to the curb and I was wedged in a snow drift and dead in the water.

Two hour wait for AAA. First show I had been a no show for in 27+ years.

So after I got towed out and back into my garage, I hunkered down in my Secret Dubratory and pulled together 3 hours of Digital Dubplate sound.

Snowmageddon Stylee!

<Smile Jamaica’s Christmas dilemma>

Greetings,

I don’t get hung up on the Holiday PC stuff. Happy Holidays? Okay. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kool Kwanza. Most awesome Mawlid (that’s what the Muslims call Jesus’ birthday – one of their Top 5 Prophets.)

My skygod of choice is Anu, Marduk and Isthar. Those who came down from the sky

download-82
Anunnaki goddess: Ishtar. Don’t put this Angel pon your Christmas Tree!

My dilemma hosting Smile Jamaica for 27+ years is how much and when to start Xmas Reggae. Some years I get complaints, “Bah humbug Nelson – play some Christmas jams!” Other years it it, “I listen to Smile Jamaica to not hear commercial Christmas”.

So this week? One Christmas tune. All I want for Christmas is my Collie herb! 8 down 42, to go!

Smile Jamaica News Service reports: “Ebola defeated Bubonic Plague in the 2016 Presidential Election”

Greetings,

I predicted this. President Donald J. Trump.

I get together with some bredrins every Friday afternoon for bourbon and music sessions.

Of course politics are a common topic with my mates. My buddy Aquaboy, Sandroid turned Hillbot, was fairly cocky that the polls showed Hillary way ahead. Evan McMullin was gonna win Utah.

I would look over at my buddy Free-Mike and give him a cold stare and said, “When we meet next Friday, you will all be stunned.” Aquaboy would scoff. Who’s scoffing now?

Or as Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan calls it: Snooze-weak

My main blog roll is the Libertarian site, Zerohedge. Run by Bulgarian hedgefunders who predicted the 2008 economic collapse and  theyrefuse to adhere to the usual corporate media consensus. They mercilessly mock the corporate media outlets.

Since I did political interviews, Radioactive 2003-2012, I am also a natural skeptic to corporate news:

  • CNN – The Clinton News Network
  • AP – Assimilated Presstitutes
  • NPR – Nationalist Propaganda Radio
  • MS-DNC
  • FUX News
  • Petroleum Bullshit Syndicate

Michael Franti: Television…drug of the nation. Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

I’m all the way Alt-Left. So from my deep political reading, I knew that Hillary Clinton was going to lose all the Midwest states but Illinois and Minnesota.

When I would run into my Liberal friends who would greet my skepticism with, “Nate Silver has Hillary Clinton a 98% likely winner.” I would scoff. The polls were oversampling Democrats who are a much smaller voting bloc since Obama came in.

4.5 million Obama voters became Indedendent. Huge mid term losses in 2010 and 2014 told me the Midwest had abandoned the Democratic Party over economic inequality.

When I would have these conversations with my Liberal friends, they would respond, “Why are you supporting Donald Trump?”.

I knew that Hillary Clinton was going to lose for these 5 reasons

  1. Obama Fatigue – record inequality under his 8 years had Americans looking for a change at the top. Just like Obama won in part b/c of Bush Fatigue after his 8 years. Should have sent at least one banker to jail.
  2. Obama voters would not be Hillary voters. Obama was young and black with a Muslim name. That candidacy resonated with blacks and Hispanics. Hillary is old and white. So minority vote turnout was way down. 137,000 fewer votes cast in Detroit and 129,000 fewer votes in Milwaukee cost her Michigan and Wisconsin
  3. Millennials wanted Bernie. In the same way they came out for Obama they were YUUGE for Bernie Sanders.  When he was aced out, they went back to their undervoting tendency.
  4. Servergate/Wikileaks/Weinergate. At the end her untrustwory numbers were worse than Trump’s. In an emotions vs facts election, that was devastating for turnout and securing independent votes.
  5. Obamacare notices went out in mid-Octboer. Average increase? 24%. Trump wants to get rid of Obamacare. Hillary wanted to “improve it.” She couldn’t come out for single payer, so  if you had your policy cancelled and the new cost doubled (as happened to a classmate of mine in Montana), advantage Trump.

Poli Sci classes will be studying the DNC campaign of Hillary Clinton for decades to come. How not to run a campaign lessons

I was wrong on 3 states:

  1. New Hampshire (for Trump) – I forgot they tend to be more conservative than their New England neighbors
  2. Colorado (for Hillary) – I thought the rural and military areas would reject the Dems.
  3. Nevada – I thought it would be Vegas for Hillary. Reno and the rest for Trump

I had a better result than Nate Silver!

So called polling savant, Nate Silver: 0 for 3 lately: British elections, BREXIT, Pres. Trump

I voted for Jill Stein. And I was wrong on her. I lost a bet (to my Hillbot buddy Aquaboy, in fact), that Jill would get 4%. Not even close! See you in 2020, Doctor Jill!

3 Hours of the Black Wax Attack on Smile Jamaica

<Vinylicious!>

Greetings,

So I’m embarking on a home remodel so I can make some sensi out ofmy Vinyl Room.

Gonna make a Library at the Ark-Ives located in a secret location in SLC.

So that means I have to pack up about 5000 Lps and 12″ style. Bought the deep plastic Tupperware bins for the  job.

So as I harvest black wax from sagging pressboard shelves into these stackable bins, I stripped out the crème de la crème for airing on this Ark-Ive Edition.

Enjoy the black wax attack. Ultra rare and heavy roots:

Time to upgrade from the old pressboard shelves into something better

Smile Jamaica Ark-Ives: May 7, 2016 (Stream + Tracklist) I Love My Mummy!

Ch9QCwCUkAA8vmn
Much love to my Mother, Jeannette

<Livicated to Jeanntte: Happy Mother’s Day Mom!>

Greetings,

Happy Mother’s Day edition of Smile Jamaica. I always start off with a beautiful cover of Tammy Wynette country stylee from Sonya Spence

Tammy Wynette

“No Charge”

My little girl came into the kitchen this evenin’,
While I was fixin’ supper,
And she handed me a piece of paper she’d been writin’ on,
And after wipin’ my hands on my apron,
I read it – and this is what it said:For mowin’ the yard – five dollars,
And for makin’ my own bed this week – one dollar,
And for goin’ to the store – fifty cents,
An’ playin’ with little sister, while you went to the store – twenty-five cents,
Takin’ out the trash – one dollar,
Gettin’ a good report card – five dollars,
And for rakin’ the yard – two dollars,
Total owed – fourteen dollars and seventy-five cents.Well, I looked at her standin’ there expectantly,
And a thousand mem’ries flashed through my mind,
So I picked up the pen, turnin’ the paper over,
This is what I wrote:For the nine months I carried you,
Growin’ inside me – NO CHARGE,
For the nights I’ve sat up with you,
Doctored you, prayed for you – NO CHARGE,
For the toys, food and clothes.
And for wiping your nose, there’s NO CHARGE,
When you add it all up.
The full cost of my love is NO CHARGE.Well, when she finished readin’,
She had great big old tears in her eyes,
And she looked up at me and said,
“Mama, I sure do love you.”
Then she took the pen,
And in great big letters,
She wrote: “PAID IN FULL.”When you add it all up,
The cost of real love is – NO CHARGE
***
Brings a tear to my eye. Spent a week with my folks moving into a new place in Phoenix. Took a day to cratedig and explore Tempe. On my way out, mom gives me a benjamin. “Have a happy cratedig.” Well that’s not exactly her words but more or less. Love that woman.
