Smile Jamaica Ark-Ives: Jah-Tober 31, 2020: Jah-loween Monster Bash!

Greetings ghouls ‘n’ gals!

<All trix, no treats!>

Smile Jamaica loves Jah-loween. Here is the Monster Menagerie from the Ark-ives:

  • Anti-christ/Mark of the Beast/666 – 7
  • Bats – 2
  • Bermuda Triangle – 1
  • Black magic – 9
  • Cemeteries & graveyards – 7
  • Demons – 6
  • Devil, Lucifer, Satan – 59
  • Dungeons – 6
  • Duppies & Jumbies (Jamaican ghosts) – 14
  • Exorcist – 1
  • Frankenstein – 5
  • Ghosts – 19
  • Halloween holiday – 5
  • Haunted houses – 2
  • Hell hounds -1
  • Loch Ness Monster – 1
  • Monsters – 4
  • Mr. Brown who rides around Trenchtown in a motorized coffin – 2
  • Mummies – 2
  • Obeah (Jamaican Black Magic) – 13
  • Skeletons – 2
  • Undertakers – 3
  • Vampires, Dracula and soap opera vampire Barnabas Collins – 63
  • Voodoo – 5
  • Werewolves – 4
  • Witches – 4
  • Zombies – 14

By my Liberal Arts math, that tallies up to over 260 Jah-loween gems. Plus all my horror soundbytes and movie trailers. (New additions in between the horrorfest such as The Exorcist, Planet of the Vampires,nNight of the Living Dead,  Phantasm).

All mixed into one bubbling cauldron of grimness. Perfect for this era of The Covid. I don’t listen to a lot of new Reggae releases but next year I’m sure to add some ghouly Covid delights.

There was once upon a time when I ‘n’ I never said a word and only played station ID’s during the 3 hours. It was truly 180 minutes of drum, bass and Afternoon of the Living Dead.

But since this is Smile Jamaica, I ‘n’ I tell you some stories to embellish the tunes:

  • Annie Palmer – the evil Jamaican wife of a slave plantation owner who used to whip her slaves mercilessly and continued to haunt them after she died

<Annie Palmer; 26 sec.>

In Jamaica police informers were referred to as Vampires:

<Vampire = informer; 27 sec.>

Peter Tosh always felt there were hell hounds on his trail. One night he was paralyzed from the forces of a demon. He prayed to Jah to save. Jah told him, “son, use the word and you will be as free as a bird.

That word? Bumba klaat. In Jamaica, that is as rude as saying Mother F’er in the US. Bum for vagina. Klaat = cloth. Rastas want nothing to do with their queen’s “monthly visitor”. So the epithet shocked the duppy (Jamaican ghost) out of Peter’s soul.

<Oh Bumba Klaat; 1 min. 22 sec.>

And how about the corpse who put a transmission, engine and four wheels on his coffin to terrorize the denizens of Trenchtown ghetto. His names was Mr. Brown.

<Mr. Brown rides around in a coffin; 21 sec.>

Smile Jamaica Ark-Ives: Jah-tober 26, 2019: Bone Yard Skank!

Greetings Ghouls ‘n Gals,

I live in Sugarhouse; on a narrow street that only has one street lamp. I rarely get any Trick or Treaters and my Doc says high fructose is not Ital. And I have a physical coming up in 3 weeks.

The last thing I need is a bunch of left over candy. On Halloween night, my doorbell camera picked up two sets of kids at my door. They were adorable. And I felt guilty. It was a record cold night.

Next year I’m gonna put a little dish near my front door and let the tykes grab whatever they want.

Just don’t do this!

Urban Legend: Stoners giving edibles out for Halloween

So enjoy this 3 hours of All killer….literally Jah-loween tunes: From driving around Kingston in a coffin to  “roll a lickle spliff wif di papyrus”. Horror bytes, movie trailers and the monster menagerie!

From your Undead station that rules the nation!

curse, Bobbylon

Smile Jamaica Ark-Ives: Jah-tober 19, 2019 – Hole in the Pumpkin!

High Fructose, the true horror of Halloween

Greetings,

I ‘n’ I have been hosting Smile Jamaica for 30 years now. October 1989. Don’t remember the first Halloween Reggae show I did, but it would have been early 90’s.

So a quarter century of the exploration of Jamaican, mostly, superstitions about witches, vampires, ghosts/duppies, Obeah Black Magic, The Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein and the rest!

About 10 years ago I was transitioned into head of the Audio Studio at the Marriott Library: Fall 2009. The early days of digital content. So I had started to notice many soundbytes in a horror vein from my Reggae CD collection.

I started ripping those clips from CDs, pull them into ProTools digital editor. “Snip, snip”. Export as .mp3. Same with a multitude of Halloween sound effects disks.

And there you go! Just like Dr. Frankenstein cutting up sound for your ghoulish pleasure!

Oct. 26th Smile Jamaica will be 3 hours of Boneyard Skanking. But play this podcast to keep the kids off your porch while you hand out your high fructose delights.

curse, Bobbylon

Smile Jamaica Ark-Ives: Jah-tober 28, 2017 (Stream + Tracklist): All Tricks, No Treats Jah-loween Special!

Greetings,

Smile Jamaica loves Halloween. Or Jah-loween as I call it. Plenty of Reggae songs dealing with the Undead. Tapping into the superstitious nature of many Reggae artists. I harvest about 2 cd suitcases, 1 bag of 7″ 45s and a crate full of vinyl devoted to….

Satan, Vampires, Ghosts & Duppies, Frankenstein, Zombies and other evil forces and black magicians..

In between, I stitched in a whole heap of Halloween movies trailers: Wolfman, Frankenstein and Young Franenstein, Nosferatu and many more.

So in the words of Lee “Scratch” Perry: Pick up your cross and follow me!

Smile Jamaica Ark-Ives: Jah-tober 14, 2017 (Stream + Tracklist): Anti-Trump Deep State & UFO Conspiri-facts!

<Government UFO confirmation leaks; 2 min. 11 sec.>

Greetings,

Listen to the above clip on the crumbling UFO conspiracy wall….

I knew Donald Trump was going to be President….

I Praise Anu every Friday with my buddies Aquaboy and Mike. Bourbon, music and political/musical discussions.

My Anunnaki ancestors enjoyed partaking of the Tree of Lie

When I said Trump was gonna beat Hillary “bigly”, my mates looked at me and said, “Too much Space Dust has made you delusional.”

I wasn’t convinced. I said: As soon as Hillary called Trump supporters “Deplorable” she was toast. Same with Romney in 2012 when he said 47% of Americans are deadbeats.

After the Revenge of the Deplorables….I made another Friday prediction:

I was Deplorable before it was cool

The Deep State wouldn’t accept an outsider/game show host like The Cheetolini as legit.

Sure enough: Fake News, Russian “hacking”, Hillary whining and leaks out of the government on all fronts.

My prediction: Government would leak in two areas to embarrass Trump

  1. UFO’s
  2. JFK

The first half of my prediction just came true:

From “real news” Huffington Post*

<UFOria – Gov’t admits it! – No more scoffing!>

Fmr. Manager of DOD Aerospace Threat Program: “UFOs are Real”

*98.2% sure Hlilary would win

Something extraordinary was revealed today. Former high-level officials and scientists with deep black experience who have always remained in the shadows came forward on one platform. These insiders have long-standing connections to government agencies which may have programs investigating unidentifed aerial phenomena (UAP/UFOs).

Next stop on the Trump Derangement Express:

Who killed JFK? (If you put Governor John Connally in an elevated jump seat between the driver and the Kennedy’s sitting lower in the passenger seat, Oswald’s shooting lines up.) Sorry to disappoint!

bless, Bobbylon

Hoping for an Alien Intervention.

Smile Jamaica News Service reports: “Ebola defeated Bubonic Plague in the 2016 Presidential Election”

Greetings,

I predicted this. President Donald J. Trump.

I get together with some bredrins every Friday afternoon for bourbon and music sessions.

Of course politics are a common topic with my mates. My buddy Aquaboy, Sandroid turned Hillbot, was fairly cocky that the polls showed Hillary way ahead. Evan McMullin was gonna win Utah.

I would look over at my buddy Free-Mike and give him a cold stare and said, “When we meet next Friday, you will all be stunned.” Aquaboy would scoff. Who’s scoffing now?

Or as Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan calls it: Snooze-weak

My main blog roll is the Libertarian site, Zerohedge. Run by Bulgarian hedgefunders who predicted the 2008 economic collapse and  theyrefuse to adhere to the usual corporate media consensus. They mercilessly mock the corporate media outlets.

Since I did political interviews, Radioactive 2003-2012, I am also a natural skeptic to corporate news:

  • CNN – The Clinton News Network
  • AP – Assimilated Presstitutes
  • NPR – Nationalist Propaganda Radio
  • MS-DNC
  • FUX News
  • Petroleum Bullshit Syndicate

Michael Franti: Television…drug of the nation. Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

I’m all the way Alt-Left. So from my deep political reading, I knew that Hillary Clinton was going to lose all the Midwest states but Illinois and Minnesota.

When I would run into my Liberal friends who would greet my skepticism with, “Nate Silver has Hillary Clinton a 98% likely winner.” I would scoff. The polls were oversampling Democrats who are a much smaller voting bloc since Obama came in.

4.5 million Obama voters became Indedendent. Huge mid term losses in 2010 and 2014 told me the Midwest had abandoned the Democratic Party over economic inequality.

When I would have these conversations with my Liberal friends, they would respond, “Why are you supporting Donald Trump?”.

I knew that Hillary Clinton was going to lose for these 5 reasons

  1. Obama Fatigue – record inequality under his 8 years had Americans looking for a change at the top. Just like Obama won in part b/c of Bush Fatigue after his 8 years. Should have sent at least one banker to jail.
  2. Obama voters would not be Hillary voters. Obama was young and black with a Muslim name. That candidacy resonated with blacks and Hispanics. Hillary is old and white. So minority vote turnout was way down. 137,000 fewer votes cast in Detroit and 129,000 fewer votes in Milwaukee cost her Michigan and Wisconsin
  3. Millennials wanted Bernie. In the same way they came out for Obama they were YUUGE for Bernie Sanders.  When he was aced out, they went back to their undervoting tendency.
  4. Servergate/Wikileaks/Weinergate. At the end her untrustwory numbers were worse than Trump’s. In an emotions vs facts election, that was devastating for turnout and securing independent votes.
  5. Obamacare notices went out in mid-Octboer. Average increase? 24%. Trump wants to get rid of Obamacare. Hillary wanted to “improve it.” She couldn’t come out for single payer, so  if you had your policy cancelled and the new cost doubled (as happened to a classmate of mine in Montana), advantage Trump.

Poli Sci classes will be studying the DNC campaign of Hillary Clinton for decades to come. How not to run a campaign lessons

I was wrong on 3 states:

  1. New Hampshire (for Trump) – I forgot they tend to be more conservative than their New England neighbors
  2. Colorado (for Hillary) – I thought the rural and military areas would reject the Dems.
  3. Nevada – I thought it would be Vegas for Hillary. Reno and the rest for Trump

I had a better result than Nate Silver!

So called polling savant, Nate Silver: 0 for 3 lately: British elections, BREXIT, Pres. Trump

I voted for Jill Stein. And I was wrong on her. I lost a bet (to my Hillbot buddy Aquaboy, in fact), that Jill would get 4%. Not even close! See you in 2020, Doctor Jill!

<Livicated? Not this week: DEAD-icated! 7 sec.>

If Mixcloud link is blanked out: Here is the 3 hour show as an embedded .mp3: 2 hr. 56 min.

Greetings,

Smile Jamaica loves Halloween or as I say: Jah-loween! For going on 20 years now I have played all treats no tricks the last Saturday in Jah-tober;

Because my job is a sound editor, I created some sound art: 81 soundbytes or Horror movie trailers that I edited in my home studio. One after each song.

Dracula, Blackula, War of the Worlds. Nuff Vincent Price: Michael Jackson and Dr. Phibes and even Alice Cooper. Halloween and X-Files soundtrack. Nuff Blaxploitation Village of the Damned.

I get a call from a listener when I stitched in the Vincent Price interlude from Alice Cooper’s “Black Widow”. Listener goes, “I called two shows on KRCL requesting  “Black Widow,” They didn’t play my request and then I heart it on Smile Jamaica.”

Boo-tiful
